Ushio Aotsuki is a middle school student who discovers a terrifying secret in the basement of his family's temple: a fearsome, ancient tiger-like demon named Tora, who has been pinned to the wall for 500 years by the legendary Beast Spear. When a sudden influx of monsters threatens his friends and family, Ushio is forced to release Tora from his imprisonment to combat the supernatural menace. Despite their mutual distrust, the two form an uneasy alliance, with Tora constantly seeking an opportunity to devour Ushio, while Ushio wields the Beast Spear to keep the demon in check. As their journey progresses, the duo travels across Japan, encountering various spirits, yokai, and human allies. They eventually uncover a grand, centuries-old conspiracy involving the Hakumen no Mono, a malevolent entity that has been manipulating human history and suffering for generations. Ushio and Tora must overcome their differences and reconcile their destinies to protect humanity from total annihilation, transforming from reluctant partners into an inseparable, legendary team.
