Velho Chico

Set against the backdrop of the São Francisco River in Brazil, 'Velho Chico' is a sweeping multi-generational saga that explores the deep-seated rivalry between two powerful families: the Sá Ribeiros and the Rosa dos Anjos. The story begins in the 1960s with the forbidden romance between Tereza, the daughter of a powerful colonel, and Santo, the son of a humble farmer. Their love is thwarted by family feuds and political ambition, leading to a separation that spans decades and leaves deep emotional scars on both families. As the narrative progresses to the present day, the conflict reignites when the children of the original star-crossed lovers find themselves drawn to each other, threatening to reopen old wounds. The series serves as a poetic and critical examination of Brazilian society, blending elements of magical realism with social commentary on land ownership, environmental preservation, and the enduring power of tradition versus progress. It is a tale of redemption, forgiveness, and the relentless flow of time, much like the river that gives the show its name.
