We Are Who We Are

Created by Luca Guadagnino for HBO and Sky Atlantic, 'We Are Who We Are' is an 8-episode coming-of-age drama that centers on two American teenagers living on a fictional U.S. military base in Chioggia, Italy. The series follows Fraser Wilson, a reserved and enigmatic newcomer who moves to the base with his two mothers, Sarah and Maggie, both high-ranking military officers. There, he befriends Caitlin Poythress, a confident and deeply observant young woman who has lived on the base for years and struggles with her own identity and complex relationship with her father. Over the course of the hot Italian summer, the narrative explores the intricate dynamics of youth, friendship, first loves, gender identity, and the surreal experience of growing up inside a heavily guarded American bubble on foreign soil. The characters navigate personal awakenings against the backdrop of the 2016 U.S. presidential election, shifting military duties, and the universal turbulence of adolescence.
