Inspired by the book series by Janette Oke, 'When Calls the Heart' follows the story of Elizabeth Thatcher, a young teacher from a wealthy Eastern family who moves to the small coal-mining town of Coal Valley (later renamed Hope Valley) in the Canadian West. Seeking to establish her independence, Elizabeth faces the harsh realities of frontier life, including the aftermath of a tragic mining explosion that left many of the town's women as widows. As she navigates the challenges of teaching and building a new life, Elizabeth forms deep bonds with the townspeople, particularly the local Mountie, Jack Thornton, and later, the businessman Lucas Bouchard. The series explores themes of community, resilience, faith, and romance, as the residents of Hope Valley work together to overcome adversity and build a thriving, supportive home for their families.
