Flight of the Conchords follows the misadventures of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, two real-life folk-pop musicians who move from New Zealand to New York City to conquer the American music market. Struggling to make ends meet in a foreign metropolis, the duo shares a cramped apartment, deals with mundane day-to-day eccentricities, and occasionally breaks into elaborate, genre-parodying musical numbers that express their innermost thoughts and anxieties. Assisted by their aggressively inept manager, Murray Hewitt—who splits his time between managing the band and working at the New Zealand Consulate—and their obsessed sole fan, Mel, Bret and Jemaine navigate the bizarre realities of dating, employment, and roommate friction. While they desperately seek gigs and romance, their distinct lack of worldly success provides the comedic engine for a charming, offbeat look at impoverished artistry in the big city.
