Set in the autumn of 1984, one year after the events of the first season, the town of Hawkins is attempting to return to normalcy. However, Will Byers continues to experience visions of the Upside Down, suggesting that the threat from the alternate dimension was not fully eradicated. As Will struggles with his connection to the hive mind, a new, more terrifying entity known as the Mind Flayer begins to exert its influence over the town. Meanwhile, the group of friends—Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will—must navigate new social dynamics and the arrival of a mysterious newcomer named Max. Eleven, having escaped the Upside Down, remains in hiding under the protection of Jim Hopper, yearning to reunite with her friends. As the portal at the Hawkins National Laboratory continues to expand, the protagonists must band together once more to prevent the encroaching darkness from consuming their world.
